The Tiers Desk

Welcome to our first installment of the tiers desk, I hope we can pass on a couple tips and a dose of inspiration. It’s the end of July and it's wicked hot which is pretty depressing for this WSF dude. Even though my favorite flavor, June Sand Eels, is behind me I am dreaming of hard tails.

If you’re like me you started your season with clousers, maybe some blue backs and then on to sand eels, maybe a worm hatch or two. July brings on some silversides, snappers, and with a little commuting some sight fishing with; crabs, shrimp, and baby flounders. What we need to start tying is the micro butters and peanuts, followed by chovies.

This weeks tip is a simple DIY tool; the worlds best dubbing brush.

I picked it up in Dave Skok’s tying class at Ramsey Outdoor and I believe he credited Dave Whitlock with passing it on to him.

Simply stick the hook side of self-adhesive hook and loop (Velcro) to a Popsicle stick. Ignore my fancy handle holes, as I have serious problems, this simple tool will fuzz your shit up right.

Stay tuned, next week we have a “guide fly” that’s perfect for 1 to 2 inch peanuts and butters.
