farmy fun

The idea is to be well versed.

Bringin' the freshwater happenings to your fingertips is a breeze and  I think tossin loops in the river is always in style. These so called Summer doldrums are for the birds The flows up north of the seashore are plentiful with insect eating fish. Kurt Daniello, no stranger to tagging browns and bows on the Farmington, is usually posted at W.O. / knee deep guiding,  but you'll find him doing his thing with the crew at CTFishGuides. If your looking for a trophy trout reach out to these guys.

Friday 7/30/10 - The Farmington is flowing through the catch and release area at 220cfs. Water temps are in the lower 60's

Tricos (sz 22-28) have begun to show up in the West Branch Trout Management area. Expect the Trico Duns to hatch at daybreak, followed by Trico Spinners from 7:30am on. Tan Caddis (sz 18-20), Black Ants (sz 14-18), Beetles (sz 12-16), Needhami Duns (sz 22-26) Midges (sz 22-32) and Winter/Summer Caddis (sz 18-22) are strong during the day. Isonychia (sz 10-14) have been hatching strong from 5pm to dark. Terrestrials and Attracters have been as the best bet during the Afternoon with trout being caught on Hoppers, Crickets, Stimulators, and Carpenter Ants.

Stay tuned...

In the salt, teeth are still poaching silversides outside the harbors in Bridgeport and we're eagerly awaiting the pending development of  a peanut situation here in Western Sound.

What's that you say? What's the preferred feathers this time of year? I like a healthy does of Black snake flies and snapper profiled imitations, I also always keep a mushie on my person - good searching pattern in less then ideal water clarity. I find those 3 are enjoyed by the targets of my efforts. Penfield Reef and  Cockenoe Island reef are choice staging areas for blues when they get schooled en mass in the rips.  The Milford Coastal Center holds this time of year too, by boat Capt. Elser is targeting structure and the shoals in that neck of the woods now that he's fresh back from Block and showing the bass whose boss.

Stay tuned for the next installment of The Tiers Corner & words from fly-fishing author Phil Shook.
