Striper bites

Fishing is hot in the Western Sound, still keeper bass eating flies close to the beaches - reports in from people finding big fish in skinny waters near Sherwood and Compo in the mornings. Basic flies are getting it done - though more flashy stuff is clicking with the big girls.

Birds are working at dusk and dawn when there in thick - from South pine to Norwalk. Some lack luster tides at dusk have kept me patiently waiting at the moment.

Traditionally, the dusk bite will pick up after the 4th of July while the morning bite window will become increasingly smaller through the middle of July. Look for a late P.M. high when cool water comes up from the Hudson. Night time fishing can get silly with the hatches in the harbors, Southport and Compo in particular.

Here's the recent report from Captain Chris - give him a shout if your looking for stripers or any other fish species- Striper King report - I'd be remiss not to mention that Chris usually cleans up on big fish in July and guides on Block as well.

Check out this video from Fishing the Vineyard's Brice Contessa - putting people on some sweet sight fishing shots up on the Vineyard. Now's the time to get up to the Vineyard to hit the flats and rips.
